Selection procedure

The selection is made based on the application information submitted by the candidate. The Executive Committee of the school evaluates all complete applications and selects top candidates for an interview. Candidates that are living too far away to travel to Hamburg are interviewed by telephone. The Committee will examine all aspects of the candidate's ability to be incorporated in the school, including his/her English language ability.
Applications of students financed by scientific projects are discussed by the Executive Committee, which decides on the admission.
The benefits are discussed and set for each individual cases upon the appointment of a doctoral student. Benefits are depending on the different employment conditions (Stipend, Contract, etc.) as well as on the students interest and supervising institution. Students may be located in Hamburg, Geesthacht, Kassel, Jena or Potsdam. Immediately afterwards an Advisory Panel is established to mentor the students doctoral research.
