International Max Planck Research School on Earth System Modelling IMPRS-ESM

Financing of School

The IMPRS-ESM receives its major financial support from the ZEIT Foundation Ebelin und Gerd Bucerius, the Max Planck Society for the Advancement in Science, and the University of Hamburg. In addition, the University of Hamburg and the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology, and the other partner institutes are contributing important, non-monetary resources.

The costs of the IMPRS-ESM are covered by

a) contributions from the participating institutions and

b) contributions from the Max Planck Society (MPG)

c) contributions by the sponsoring ZEIT-Foundation.

The partners finance the IMPRS-ESM in part from their own funds and from third-party funds. The institutions contribute doctoral positions and lecture courses and seminars, as specified in the description of the curriculum

Funding from the MPG is used mainly for additional doctoral positions, coordinating and secretarial positions, cost of the annual retreat etc.

The ZEIT Foundation sponsors the IMPRS-ESM in total with 767.000 Euros for 6 years. The ZEIT Foundation fosters the international exchange, which contributes to the formation of a broad international network. The ZEIT Foundation supports the important task to establish relations between the IMPRS-ESM and institutions in the developing countries involved in climate and Earth system research.
