Overview

The curriculum for the doctoral students consists of a series of courses, which are offered at irregular frequency. The Executive Committee of the Research School discusses the curriculum, adding and modifying courses when found advantageous or important for the training of the doctoral students. Students may request the arrangement of specific courses from the Executive Committee.

S_38 Statistical Tools in Modeling: Spectral Analysis
Credits: 1, Days: 3, Block course

Course Dates / Times:

25 - 27 June 2008

on Wed 9:00 - 12:00
on Thur 9:00 - 12:00
on Fri 10:00 - 13:00

Content:

A spectral analysis aims at the estimation of spectra, which are parameters of stochastic processes. The course will start with a short introduction to stochastic processes and their parameters, followed by a general discussion on estimation. The main body of the course deals with methods normally used to estimate spectrum and questions, such as why these methods are needed and how they differ from each other.

Comments:

Each of the course will be accompanied by an exercise dealing with scientific questions concerning the IPCC integrations. The data required in the exercises will be extracted from an ensemble of IPCC integrations beforehand. Possible methods to be used to answer the questions will be discussed and applied by the students.
