Phd Program

We currently have 4 vacant PhD positions at the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology -
in the departments ‘The Atmosphere in the Earth System’ (AES) and ‘The Ocean in the Earth System’ (OES).
Possible research topics are available in the areas:
(1) Modeling of convective processes (AES)
(2) Climate dynamics of precipitation zones (AES)
(3) Climate dynamics of an aqua planet (OES)
(4) Numerical error estimation in the new model ICON-ocean (OES)
(5) Mechanisms of ocean heat in a warming world (OES)
(6) Large-Eddy simulations in ocean modelling (OES)

Online registration for our Call for applications is possible from 1 - 26 February.
(Application documents can be submitted until 29 February.)
Doctoral positions will be available from May 2012; financial support will be offered
in the form of a stipend or a doctoral contract (duration up to 3 years).
PhD topics will be finalized upon admission.
Our PhD Program is open to applicants holding the equivalent of a German 'Diplom'
or a Master's degree (with written thesis) in physics, geophysical sciences
(incl. meteorology and oceanography), chemistry, ecology, mathematics,
computer science, engineering, economics, or political science. Also students
currently still working on their MSc thesis are encouraged to apply. The selection
procedure includes an interview of short-listed candidates.
